Converting a file shouldn't mean giving it away
JoltFile started from a simple observation: the most popular online file converters make you upload personal photos, voice recordings, contracts, and tax documents to a server you know nothing about, run by a company you've never heard of, under a privacy policy you've never read. For a task as simple as turning a PNG into a JPG, that trade never made sense to us.
Modern browsers are powerful enough to do the work locally. So that's how JoltFile is built: conversion engines that run on your device, inside your browser tab, whenever the format allows it. The result is a converter that is faster than the upload-based kind, works without handing your files to anyone, and doesn't need to know who you are.
What we optimize for
Privacy is architecture, not policy
Most 'private' tools promise deletion after upload. We process files in your browser whenever technically possible, so for most conversions there is nothing to delete — the file never left your machine.
Speed comes from skipping the upload
The slowest part of online conversion was never the conversion — it's uploading 200 MB over a home connection. Local processing removes the bottleneck entirely.
Free means free
No accounts for everyday use, no watermarks, no 'your file will be ready in 40 minutes unless you pay'. A Pro tier will add heavier limits and batch features — it will never ransom basic functionality.
Honest about quality
File formats involve real trade-offs. Our guides tell you when a conversion is lossless, when it's visually transparent, and when you'd be hurting your files — even when the honest answer is 'don't convert'.

The converter supports 24 formats across four categories — images (PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, SVG, HEIC), video (MP4, MOV, WebM, AVI, MKV, GIF), audio (MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, M4A, AAC), and documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown, HTML, EPUB) — more than 50 conversion pairs, each documented with a step-by-step guide and an honest explanation of what the conversion does to your file's quality.
We also publish the JoltFile blog, where we write the guides we wished existed: format comparisons with real numbers, codec explainers in plain English, and conversion tutorials that respect your time.
