Convert images between PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF & more
Image formats each make a different trade-off between quality, file size, transparency, and compatibility. PNG is lossless and transparent but heavy; JPG is small but lossy; WebP and AVIF compress far better but need modern software; HEIC saves iPhone storage but barely opens anywhere else. JoltFile's image converters move your files between all of them — processed in your browser whenever possible, so your photos never leave your device.

Image conversion questions, answered
Which image format should I use for a website?
WebP or AVIF for photographs and large imagery (25–50% smaller than JPG/PNG), PNG for logos and graphics needing transparency, and SVG for icons and illustrations. Serving WebP/AVIF with a JPG/PNG fallback covers every browser.
What's the difference between lossy and lossless image formats?
Lossless formats (PNG, lossless WebP/AVIF) preserve every pixel exactly, at the cost of larger files. Lossy formats (JPG, lossy WebP/AVIF) permanently discard detail the eye barely notices, achieving much smaller files. Use lossless for editing masters, lossy for delivery.
Why won't my HEIC photos open on Windows?
HEIC requires codec extensions that Windows doesn't install by default, and many apps ignore the format entirely. Converting HEIC to JPG or PNG makes iPhone photos open everywhere.
Does converting an image reduce its quality?
Only when converting to a lossy format (JPG, lossy WebP/AVIF), and at quality 90+ the loss is invisible on photos. Conversions between lossless formats — or from lossy to lossless — preserve the image exactly as it is.
