Privacy Policy

The short version

JoltFile is designed so that your files are converted on your own device, inside your browser, whenever technically possible. For those conversions, your files are never uploaded to our servers, and we never see them.

For the small number of conversions that require server-side processing, files are encrypted in transit, used only to perform the conversion you requested, and deleted automatically. We do not sell data, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not require an account for everyday use.

What files you convert

Browser-based conversions (the default for most format pairs): the file is read by your browser, processed locally by our conversion engine, and written back to your device. The file's contents never travel over the network. Closing the tab discards everything.

Server-processed conversions (a small minority of pairs that need heavier computation): the file is uploaded over TLS, converted, and made available for you to download. Uploaded and converted files are stored temporarily — never longer than 24 hours — and then permanently deleted by an automated process. We do not inspect, share, or use file contents for any purpose other than performing your conversion.

Account and personal data

JoltFile's free tier requires no account, so for most users we hold no personal data at all. If you contact us by email, we keep your address and message history only as long as needed to handle your request.

Analytics and cookies

We use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics to understand which pages and converters are used, so we can improve the product. Our analytics:

• Do not use cross-site tracking or advertising cookies
• Do not record file names, file contents, or conversion output
• Collect only page-level events (page views, conversion-pair selections, approximate geography derived from IP and immediately discarded)
• Are never shared with third-party data brokers

What we never do

Regardless of how a file is processed, we never:

• Sell or rent your files or personal data to anyone
• Use your files to train machine-learning models
• Add watermarks or tracking markers to converted files
• Retain server-processed files beyond 24 hours
• Require an account, email address, or payment details for free conversions

Data security

All traffic between your browser and our servers uses TLS encryption. Server-processed files are stored encrypted at rest for their short lifetime, with access restricted to the automated conversion pipeline — not readable by staff in the ordinary course of business.

Your rights

Because we hold so little data, most privacy requests are trivially satisfiable. Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal data we hold about you. Email us at the address below and we will respond within 30 days.

Changes to this policy

If we change how data is handled in a material way, we will update this page and revise the 'last updated' date above. Continued use of the service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
